The Queen Slime is an optional Terraria boss with a unique attack style and some brilliant rewards like the teleporting Hook of Dissonance. Despite her pastel appearance, Queen Slime can be deadly for any unprepared players, but luckily, this guide details exactly how to summon the Queen Slime and how to defeat her.

How To Summon

Terraria: How To Summon And Defeat Queen Slime (1)

The Queen Slime is an elegant gelatinous creature, with a delicate crown and an iridescent shimmer. As her illustrious appearance suggests, she is a Hallow-themed boss. She can be summoned by interacting with a Gelatin Crystal in the Hallow biome at any time of day. It is worth noting the fight does not have to take place in Hallow, as Queen Slime will teleport to the player once they are out of sight.

Gelatin Crystals are shimmery oval-shaped crystals with a pink-blue color shift pattern to make them easy to spot. They can be found in the Underground Hallow, typically attached to Pink Ice Blocks or Pearlstone. It can be detected by the Metal Detector, although it may be difficult to pinpoint its location if there are many Crystal Shards in the area.

Gearing Up: The Best Combat Builds

The beauty of Terraria involves its extensive range of individual customization. It features an array of weaponry, armor, and accessories to help players in their conquests. As such, players can customize and switch their combat builds due to the freedom the game allows them. The optimal combat gear for the fight against Queen Slime depends on which fighting class the player feels the most comfortable playing. Below is a rough suggestion of which weapons and armor are great for this fight, but it is not an exhaustive list.

Palladium armor is recommended, despite its lower overall stats bonuses. Its strength lies with its Rapid Healing set bonus as it increases health regeneration, which will only be increased by Campfires and Heart Lanterns. Titanium armor is also a solid choice due to its base stats and Titanium Barrier passive. Queen Slime is immune to Poison and Confused debuffs, so there is no point in using any weapons that inflict these.

Like most Hardmode boss fights in Terraria, Wings are a necessary accessory to dodge the projectiles and other attacks the boss may throw at them. The best Wings available at this early stage of Hardmode are the Fin or Fairy Wings, allowing for more mobility and airtime to dodge attacks.

  • Magic - Magic users are in luck, with more viable options than any other classes for this fight. The Golden Shower spell tome dishes out plenty of damage and can lower the defense of any enemy it attacks. The Meteor Staff is a great early Hardmode weapon that can be devastating and is easy to craft. However, it does have a high mana cost, so players will need plenty of Mana potions if they use this weapon.
  • Melee - The Amarok or Yelets (if a mechanical boss has been killed) are two strong Yoyo contenders. These two weapons have a high damage output and range, so melee users don't need to put themselves at risk. The Drippler Crippler, dropped from Blood Eels, is an excellent flail for this fight and is a double threat with high damage output and range.
  • Ranged - Ranged is one of the better melee styles against Queen Slime, as players can try and keep their distance. The Daedalus Stormbow is an excellent weapon for a double whammy. Its multiple attacks can wipe out the smaller Slimes while damaging the Queen Slime herself. It should be paired with Holy Arrows and the Magic Quiver accessory. The Adamantite Repeater is also a strong early-Hardmode weapon that is easy to make and another viable option.
  • Summoner - The Sanguine Staff is the best option for Summoners during this fight, allowing players to consistently barrage the Queen Slime with attacks. However, players should bear in mind that it can be tedious to obtain this weapon from the Dreadnautilus as it is a formidable foe in its own right. The Firecracker Whip has a high DPS if the minion and player attack the same target.

The Actual Fight

In both phases, Queen Slime shoots out bouncing projectiles that can prove deadly if they ricochet from physical blocks. The best way around this is to build a sky arena constructed entirely out of platforms, so her attacks will fall straight through. Platforms also allow for easier dodging and avoiding attacks. As with all boss fights, players should adorn their arena with copious amounts of Campfires and Heart Lanterns for optimal passive health regeneration. Garden Gnomes can also reduce damage taken and increase damage dealt, so they are worth having.

Queen Slime has two phases that players need to consider. Her second form is triggered once she reaches half of her health pool. The Queen Slime can easily overwhelm an under-prepared player with her rapid movement speeds and unpredictability. Her two phases are detailed below, so players are aware of her attack style.

First Phase

The Queen Slime fight is initially very similar to the King Slime. She will teleport to the player if she cannot see or reach them and jumps around sporadically. She summons various NPCs that can quickly overwhelm the player like Heavenly Slimes, Bouncy Slimes, and Crystal Slimes. The latter shoots several crystals, while the former will fly directly towards the player.

After Queen Slime has bounced several times, she will launch her attacks. She can jump swiftly towards the player and stomp them, which can deal a lethal amount of damage if the player does not move out of the way in time. She can fire Regal Gel, which can bounce and deal high levels of damage. She can perform her Regal Gel attacks several times in a row. The best method is to dodge these attacks using Wings or other mobility accessories like a Cloud in a Bottle or Hermes Boots.

Second Phase

Once Queen Slime has been whittled down to 50% of her health, she will sprout angelic wings and fly towards the player. Her AI undergoes a slight metamorphosis, just like her appearance.

She is now able to fire Regal Gel in 10 directions. She may also fly above the player and ground-stomp them. Players should ensure they tackle all the smaller Slime mobs she spawns, as they can quickly become numerous and dangerous in large numbers.
