Are Walker Mowers Any Good? (Explained For Beginners) (2024)

As the owner of multiple mid-size properties, I use a Walker Mower for all of them, both to cut grass in the summer and to remove snow in the winter. They give a superior cut that no other mower can match. I’m happy to share my experiences with you.

I’ve been using Walker Mowers for more than five years now, and what I love the most is the expediency with which I can do all of my properties in one day.

The properties are located within a few miles of each other, and I can load the mower easily into my pickup and get all the lawns done in about 6 hours.

So, are walker mowers any good really?

Walker mowers can handle tough jobs, rough terrain, hills, rocky areas and can maneuver around shrubs and gardens easily enough. Furthermore, they are quite durable and easy to maintain and they provide a comfortable ride and their grass-catch feature ensures a clean yard when you want only the best-looking lawn.

The warranty covers the entire tractor for 2-3 years depending on the model and the company is great to deal with when questions or concerns arise.

Walker was founded in the 1980’s, and since its inception, has strived to provide customers with superior quality and excellent service. They continue to bring new products to the market, for both commercial and residential customers.

Overall, they provide great value for the price. Financing options are available, so there are options for those just starting a landscaping business or who are on a tight budget.

There is a model and attachments to suit any need: residential, commercial, summer or winter, mowing, seeding, snow removal, or transplanting/hauling.

Choosing the Right Walker Mower

When I first entered the real estate market and bought some land, I knew that I would need to maintain my property if I wanted to be a responsible landlord. Because money was a bit tight, I didn’t want to hire a landscaper, I wanted to do the job myself. My next big decision was how to choose the right lawn mower for my needs.

I’d used Walker mowers in the past, and I knew that I wanted to continue with the brand. Choosing the model took a bit more research, but I finally decided on the C19i model. With its 19HP engine and 42” collection deck, I was pretty confident it could handle regular mowing sessions, along with spring and leaf cleanup.

For regular mowing needs on just your own property, the Si14i may be all you need. For heavy duty commercial needs or challenging terrain, consider the R-Series mower, such as the R21.

There is a great article here about factors to consider when choosing the best riding lawn mower for your needs.

Are Walker Mowers Low Maintenance?

As with all machines, maintenance is required if you want durability and high performance every time. Compared to other mowers I’ve used in the past, my C19i requires about the same amount of time and effort to keep up.

Regular oil changes and belt replacements are a must for any mower, and Walker is no different. The better you take care of it, the longer it will last.

Are Walker Mowers easy to Use?

Simply put, if you can drive a car, you can operate a Walker mower. Spend an afternoon in a wide-open space and you’ll get used to the controls and the feel of the unit. Then mow away! The compact design of the C19i makes for a smoother, more comfortable ride.

Are Walker Mowers Zero Turn?

Yes. Walker mowers are zero turn models and this makes for easy cutting around obstacles like gardens, shrubs and trees. One of my properties has several trees spaced along the back property line, as well as an irregularly-shaped rock garden. My C19i makes getting around these easily, while still giving a superior cut.

There is a very informative article here about the benefits of a zero turn mower.

What Kind of Cool Accessories to Walker Mowers Have?

There are plenty of neat accessories you can buy for your Walker mower. I personally love the comfort seat, which adds width and thigh comfort. It comes in handy when you’re using it for long periods of time. The LED headlights are also a must for me, when dusk comes and I’m finishing up a job. I also have the two-stage snow blower which is essential for life in Colorado!

Other optional accessories include a tow hitch, mulching kit, and side-mount grass catchers.

I usually fertilize and seed my lawns as well. There are attachments that let me do that quickly and easily. The Spyker Spreader lets me fertilize my yard easily and quickly.

How Much do Walker Mowers Cost?

Expect to open your wallet wide when considering a Walker Mower purchase. The C19i will cost you about $12,000, while the T-30 can put you back about $18,000. Luckily, there is financing available if you need it. Resale models can also be purchased for less if you don’t mind used models.

There are Walker dealers across the country, and if you go to this website, you can find the one closest to you by putting in your zip code.

The website also gives you the option of trying one before you decide whether or not you want to purchase it.

How Durable are Walker Mowers?

Durability is part of the reason they’re more expensive. That is, when you purchase one, you know you have a reliable, durable machine for many years. I’ve had my C19i for about five years and use it almost daily. I’ve never had major problems.

My Walker Mower has been exposed to the elements in February as well as August, and it’s still going strong.

Are Walker Mowers Good for Small Suburban Yards?

If you have a yard big enough to require a riding mower, then a Walker mower will suit your needs. If you like to have a well-manicured lawn and be the envy of your neighborhood, look no further than a Walker mower.

If you’re in the middle of a downtown metropolis with a small front and back yard, a lawn tractor may not be suitable.

Do Walker Mowers Provide a Good Cut?

Walker has built their reputation on providing a superior looking cut. Part of the reason is that the weight of the machine is less than others, thus not putting any undue pressure on the grass. The front-mount deck gives a superior cut that sets the machine apart from mid-mount decks.

The overall result is a lawn that looks like it was cut by a professional. Walker mowers were designed with cut in mind and they have worked hard over the years to build their reputation as a customer favorite.

Can Walker Mowers be Used for Snow Removal?

Yes. As I mentioned earlier, I use my C19i for snow removal in the winter. The snow blower attachment, along with my LED headlights, mean I can easily clear out driveways and walkways so my tenants can get to work safely. Since I live in Colorado, snow clearing is a big part of my job as a landlord.

Ploughs are also available for bigger models for bigger snow clearing jobs.

How Good is the Walker Mower Warranty?

The warranty is pretty comparable to other brands that offer similar models and features. Warranty differs depending on the model you choose.

The C19i comes with a 2-year warranty on the entire tractor, 3 years on the drive system (or 3000 hours), and 3 years on the engine.

The T21d model provides the same coverage, but only 2 years for the engine.

The R21 model provides 3 years for the entire tractor, 3 years (or 300 hours) for the drive system, and 3 years for the engine.

Extended warranties are also available.

What do the Reviews Say?

I looked at 3 websites for consumer reviews:

Gardenbeast.com

Consumerreviews.com

Lawnsite.com

I found a total of 545 reviews, with approximately 76% positive rating. One of the main features that consumers love is the quality of the cut. Many consumers, however, were a little taken aback at the price.

Many reviewers were very satisfied with their Walker mowers because they could easily maneuver around irregular shaped lawns, and the grass collector feature leaves their lawn looking pristine.

Walker Mowers are A Good Investment

If you have a mid-size or large lawn, have gardens or shrubs to maneuver around, and you love having a pristine-looking lawn, a Walker Mower may be just what you’re looking for. Walker mowers are easy to use, handle beautifully, and are comfortable to ride on. They are reliable and easy to maintain and can store nicely in the corner of a garage, out of the way when not in use.

Whether you live in a sunny and warm climate all year long, or you drudge through six months of winter, a Walker mower will get you through it with ease.

Overall, it’s a great mower for the price, and it will last for many years with proper care and maintenance.
